I enjoyed my stay, particularly because the rooms are beautifully decorated and provide a charming atmosphere. I did notice that the bathroom could have benefited from a bit more maintenance, as some areas looked tired. It's a solid choice for a short getaway, but some upgrades would enhance the experience further.

Made to feel very welcome. Helpful in reguard to early request to register two other members of the party earlier than the 2.00pm time.
Sunday morning breakfast staff did not appear to be all that interested in the requirementsof guests:- twice we had to go out to ask for coffee and the plates when finished with, we had to find somewhere to put them offf of the table. However in general I have no complaints of this hotel and would recommend to anyone going to this area.

Large bedroom. Very good indeed.
1) The room was dark. Lighting in it was inadequate for reading. Entering the darkish room (5pm) and even though the foyer-area switch was near the bedroom door we had to search for the nearest switch to illuminate the room as a whole. 2) The noise from other guests on the patio (after 11pm) was disturbing so we had to close the window. The room was then far too hot - OK there was a fan but it was noisy. 3) Shower pressure was very poor indeed and shower was never hot enough.

The room decor was charming, but the heating was uncomfortably hot.

Staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and tidy. The breakfast was excellent.
The bed was not very comfortable and the plastic mattress covering made it extremely difficult to sleep comfortably - it got very, very, hot and the rustling/crinkling noise was an irritant. It spoiled what was otherwise a very nice stay.

There was a very friendly and warm welcome from the front desk staff on check-in. And the room service staff were equally friendly.
My ground floor room had a huge picture window directly on to the busy High Street pavement. Which meant I was unable to open windows and had to rely on the ac on a very hot summer night. Though obviously there was a heavy privacy net curtain, the huge window was a disconcerting feature of the room. This had not been pointed out on booking, had it been, I would have re-considered my stay. In the bathroom which seemed fairly newly modernised, the loo-roll holder fell off the wall, it had not been installed properly. The basin mixer tap was not properly anchored and therefore difficult to control. There was no handle on the loo-brush therefore unuseable. And the turning device to close the bath plug was not anchored properly and also very difficult to use effectively. All were installation/maintenence issues, and I assume easy to fix, however all problems should have been identified previously by cleaning/housekeeping staff and not a paying guest.

The Crown impresses with its charming atmosphere and helpful staff, though the housekeeping left some room for improvement and the music was quite loud at times. Still, the spacious room and delicious breakfast made for an enjoyable experience overall.

Make sure you get to breakfast well before 10.00, otherwise there won't be anything left.
